How Easy is to Install the L-8000?
Unfortunately, the no-hassle installation claim is not exactly accurate even with the EZ mount system. Waste King even recommends that the buyer hire a professional plumber to install the system unless the owner has previous experience with similar installations. Improper installations will cause leaking and some movement.
Also, if your previous garbage disposal is a different brand to Waste King and does not use the EZ mount system, you will need to make some adjustments. A 3 bolt mount system, which is the other type of mounting system used for disposal units has a different set and you will need to buy a kit to convert to the EZ mount system or remove the 3 bolt system and install the EZ mount system. This kit is bought separately.
Whether you have an existing set-up or not, expect to spend 1 to 2 hours installing it. One of the problems with installation is the locking ring on the sink flange which battles with the rubber gasket until you find the right position – and this can take some time and a lot of patience. You should also consider having some plumber's putty for sealing.
You will also discover that you cannot use any other brand of disposal flange because it will not work with this Waste King. This shouldn't be a major issue unless you do not like the design of the flange and stopper.
Using the Waste King L8000
On the downside, large food pieces like a rotten apple will not fit the sink opening so you will have to chop up large pieces first. You will also have to get used to the start-up noise and the grinding noise which has been described as "noisy" to "not-as-noisy as my previous one." Also, the sink ring is made of chrome which tends to look scratchy after a while.
All things considering, the L-800 is highly recommended with minimal issues that don't really count if you get the right guy to install it for you.
